Proper rune names
Do the Runes have any proper names like in Dungeon Master, Fire was Ro or something like that, It's been so long I can't remember, but I think it was DM where they would verbally say the spell when they cast it, I always thought that was kind of cool and could imagine the wizard doing his mystic incantations when casting
...And that's all I have to say about that.
Re: Proper rune names
[grog mode on]Technically speaking, this are not Runes. Proper designation would be Glyphs.
[/grog mode off]
The Glyphs are named after the arcane domain/elements they stand for: (Fire, Air, Earth, Live, Spirit, Matter, etc.)
Runes are letters, which have a 'glyphic layer' of meaning.
There are Runes in LoG - the writings on the walls.
But it's just gibberish: " LGJI HIIKL ASIHU UK..." etc. (and it's always one of the same two texts, ...at least what I have seen till now).
Also the headstones of the doorways have an Odal-Rune. (which is the 'Life'-glyph, the only one of them, that actual looks like a Rune).
So, the meaning of the Rune/Sign/Glyph on top of the doorways in LoG is to always remind you:
"This is the way to survive and live your Life on - find the way out."

Re: Proper rune names
Fire was FUL, and I can't remember any version of Dungeon Master that spoke the rune names aloud. That being said, I agree that having proper rune names was cool and would love to see the same for Grimrock.
Re: Proper rune names
Arx Fatalis did this. When casting a spell, you had to draw the runes with your arms and fingers into the air (using your mouse of course) and at the same time your character started chanting the names of the runes in a shivering, deep voice. It was glooorious!
Don't think this would work in Grimrock since you just click-click-click the glyphs and bam! you're done. No one can pronounce words that fast.

Yes, That was the game, thanks for correcting that, I thouhgt it was a very good element for the total game experience.

Re: Proper rune names
Yeah, I think I will take a crack at this.
I made a copy of the DM glyphs/ideograms on my deviant art page.
DM got me into languages and conlaguages.
In DM:
Oh Kath Ra was Lightning Bolt.
Ful Ir was Fireball.
And, the one I always remembered was Ful Bro Neta for Fire Shield. (^_^)y
I think LoG's set would be similar.
