Diving Zarchton. Can they swim to different elevations?

Diving Zarchton. Can they swim to different elevations?

I have placed some of the Zarchtons at different water elevations and they never try to swim up and out of pits, and they wont swim out to deeper water if they are on a higher elevation. I think this behavior is possible since those flying squids and some other flying enemies have elevation changes in their AI. Does anyone know how to fix the Zarchtons?
