Nerf poison cloud?

I may have missed something the first playthrough... without patch
I had a maxxed earth mage and poison cloud did not seem OP.
What exactly was it that caused the nerf?

I can't believe they actually nerfed it either...

I'm guessing it was too easy to abuse through portcullis.

I was thinking the portcullis is the only thing but seriously...
If I used that start I was sitting there for a very long time anyway so adding more time to a portcullis strat does not really detract from using it since those who are patient enough to already sit there will just sit there a little longer.
All conjecture though. Since there is no official response.
And with maxxed earth mage and shaman staff lightning bolt and fire was still way more useful.

I wonder this myself. I was hoping that "nerf" just meant "Can no longer cast through portcullis".
But really, how could you even tell if they had nerfed it? It ticks for 1-3

Except that it wasn't.

It did pathetic damage.

Enemy didn't stay for long on the affected tile.

It'd cost too much energy to abuse this.

IMO it *should* work through bars but obviously not walls

It seems to me that the poison effect from the herder poison cloud isn't lasting very long at all. Maybe that's what got nerfed. Previously, I'd get poisoned and would have to rest for quite a while for it to go away. Now it's gone in seconds.

Why? It wasn't that strong. It is only lethal when the player gets cornered - which should be avoided anyway - AND he/she did not manage to break free.

The poison effect from the cloud, not the direct damage from it. So you aren't poisoned for several game hours for stepping in a cloud for a brief second. After all, monsters don't take damage from it once they leave our poison clouds.
