Didn't realize dudes your age have interest in these kind of games. Then again, you were there before videogames in general even began... That's pretty cool.
Lol. Been gaming for longer than I care to remember. Started with a Dragon 32 (text adventures) then on to Dragon 64, Commodore 64, Amiga, Amiga 500 & then various PC builds. Favourite games ever were Ultima 4 & Ultima Underworld.
Fascinating. Those "Dragons", were they sort of PCs, or just a series of text adventures?
And as for Ultima 4 and Underworld- I played them for the first time just couple of years ago, and was really impressed. 4 was fun- It was great exploring Britannia, gathering clues, and progressing on your own terms. I even made a little journal to write all the clues in, and printed out the map. (Fuck those sea battles though, annoying as hell).
And as for Underworld, I really couldn't believe it came out before Wolf3D. It had so many advanced features people would not see in the First-person genre for years to come. An absolutely great game that I can objectively say has aged very well.
Started with the ZX81 back in the day with it's metalic paper printer and massive 1k memory ,plus I had a whopping 16k expansion module that was bigger than the actual machine if memory serves hehe.
"Dragon" computers were brought out in UK ( they were built in Wales). The graphic display was not very good (pretty awful really when compared to Commodore computers) but they had some of the best text adventures around at that time.
Respect! I love that! Myself I'm only 34 but I started young with an old Ericsson PC, complete with no HD, two 5" disk stations and a rather insane monitor with two colours. No, not black and white but brown and orange. Oh, glory days spamming buttons whilst playing Gauntlet with my brother. Good times when my dad came home with a brand spanking new PC and I managed to get a copy of EotB in '90. And not to forget the amazing Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss. I bought the game for the name alone - it had 'Stygian' in it which was the same as in my Conan the Barbarian comics
I digress. Sorry. It's just too fun revisiting those memories, everything seemed so intense back then
Wow, I'm usually the oldest (or one of the oldest) people on the forums I frequent, but here I'm just a kid! Woot! I can totally troll and misbehave and nobody will think anything of it because I'm only 30!
