What about this 4 heroes idea?

Post by Daght »

Front line: Human fighter unarmed/athletics & Minotaur Fighter axes/armors
Backline: Human Rogue throwing/assassination & insectoid Air/ice wizard/spellcraft

some hints about this?

I would prefer 2 times swords, which is by far the best imo.

Mage is good, but a second mage is better (so both can make some ice and then air resp. fire which has the highest damage). Backstabbing is a problem and works only in bigger rooms.

A little assassination for the strength gain maybe, beyond that its not a great use of skill points for a dedicated throw rogue. Minotaurs make better unarmed fighters than humans, the unarmed tree boosts dexterity and evasion, a nice synergy with their natural strength and head hunter perk.

Axes are slow, and sucky in-game. You get an axe with the same attack power as (arguably) the best sword in the game on level 9. You get that sword on level 6, it swings nearly twice as fast/often AND has a bonus to accuracy... axes make you cry.

I like the mage. Freezing and invisibility are the best magic effects. I stopped learning air after 19 (invisibility) and and ice at 24 (improved bolt). This should leave enough for 10 spellcraft (-25% cooldown) which is more than enough, coupled with the unlisted cooldown bonus the orbs give.

If you take Skilled as a starting trait for Human characters, you'll end up with 55 points (give or take four, depending on how many monsters you kill) by the end of the game.

Your human fighter should use only Unarmed Combat, no Athletics. Stats are mostly irrelevant compared to skill point allocation. Food is not a problem. Carry weight is not a problem if you don't try to packrat everything in the dungeon.

Your Minotaur would probably be better off with Swords instead of Axes. Swords are far better weapons, and the Headhunter trait (which is awesome) adds attack power to every swing, so swinging more often gets more benefit from this.

Why in the world would you mix Throwing and Assassination? Just stick with Throwing or Missile Weapons for a back row Rogue. Stats are basically irrelevant compared to points in weapon skills. A ranged Rogue should only put points in whichever weapon skill you decide to go with.

Single-school spellcasters are easier to not screw up. Eighteen points in Spellcraft and a single school is a solid build. Never put more than 18 points in Spellcraft. If you go dual-school, you need to have all of your points planned in advance to get the spells you want and not run out of skill points. Dual-schooling it means ten points in Spellcraft at most if you want to get powerful bolts for both schools, and one of them should probably be Fire. There's a book you can find that gives +3 Fire Magic. A smaller investment in Spellcraft lets you dual school whatever you want and get the more powerful bolts for both schools, but I probably wouldn't go that route myself.
A little assassination for the strength gain maybe, beyond that its not a great use of skill points for a dedicated throw rogue.
Even that much is a waste. If you put four points into Assassination you get +1 strength. If you had an odd number of strength before, then getting that +1 will increase your attack power by one (if your strength was even before, getting +1 strength gives you no attack power increase). If you put those four points into Throwing instead, your attack power will increase by four.
