Pre-Download
Pre-Download
Is there a possibility for a LoG pre-download ? It would be fantastic to play right away the moment it goes public.
Re: Pre-Download
Being a single player game, and all the data files will be on the pc, how would downloading it early keep people from playing it early? I guess steam can maybe disable it, but the game has a standalone download and it only uses steam if you want to get achievements. I for one have no plan to register with steam unless I find there is really something useful on steam.
Now they could do what my baseball sim game does where they release it 3 days before the game goes public to people that preorder....If any of the devs are taking hints

Re: Pre-Download
I suppose it would be technically possible to pre-load stuff encrypted like steam preloads work, or simply don't preload the executable, just all the data...
But doing either is a huge hassle, and the game is 'only' one gigabyte or so..
The servers are going to hurt on the 11th nevertheless.

Re: Pre-Download
I'm planning on playing the steam version assuming it's available at the same time as the stand alone version. Steam do often allow pre-download so fingers crossed.

Often? In my experience, steam has only done preloads for some very, very high profile games, and not always even then.Darklord wrote:I'm planning on playing the steam version assuming it's available at the same time as the stand alone version. Steam do often allow pre-download so fingers crossed.

Re: Pre-Download
Ah I'll amend that to sometimes then. Every game I've been in a rush to play has been pre-downloadable anyhow

Re: Pre-Download
In my experience the decrypting of the game takes forever. I'd rather download a gig than wait for decrypting on Steam. (Portal 2 launch comes to mind... that took ages)

Re: Pre-Download
I was sort of counting on a preload from steam. that ain't gonna happen? *tears well up*

I'd take one of the four wooden clubs I was carrying and just bash open doors with it.

Re: Pre-Download
I'm not saying it won't happen - I have no knowledge of whether this is planned or not - but I don't think it'll be worth the hassle.Radioman970 wrote:I was sort of counting on a preload from steam. that ain't gonna happen? *tears well up*
It has to be set up by Valve somehow, the server bandwidth requirements are probably nowhere near (as a random example) hl2ep3, the decryption takes ages (like someone mentioned), sometimes preloads go wrong and you end up having to re-download the whole thing anyway, and so on.

If the game is about a gig it won't take that long anyway. Funny thing, I'm on vacation starting on the weekend after release. I don't want ANY problems with getting this sucker!
