Lvl 6 Walkabout

What is the purpose of the walk about section? There seem to be 3 invisible pressure plates, but nothing ever happens when stepping on them. See image below

Incidentally if they still make a noise when you step on them then just keep walking, there's more stuff to find!

But is there a specific order you need to step on them? or just in circles over and over? I kept going one way, then another, then through the middle and at one point stuff happened, but I never really understood what I did right lol

Two things happened:
1. A soldier appeared. Kept going after killing him.
2. A bag with goodies appeared. After, I did not hear any clicks. Was there more?

I just kept walking clock wise around the outer edge.
