The chief editor of the german Gamers Global Magazine calls LoG "A shameless copy of a classic", meaning Dungeon Master.

It's not in the review but in the comments:

Do you agree?

The devs have outright stated from this beginning this game is directly inspired by games like EoB, Dungeon Master, etc.

Criticizing them for it sounds kind of dumb.

I never really finished DM, as EOB was much more appealing. I think that LoG is a mirror image of EOB, though, obviously without AD&D character system. I also think that's a good thing, the likeness to EOB, one of my all time favorite games.

Depends entirely on your point of view, and how you see the world.

I'd call it a "loving and respectful homage" to a classic. :)

And yes, the devs have said all along it's inspired by DM and other games of that era.

Well by definition,

shame·less
adjective
1. lacking any sense of shame: immodest; audacious.
2. insensible to disgrace.
3. showing no shame.

Well definitely no shame involved in such an awesome game, and no shame in a homage to other classic game, so sure! :D

Daniel.

Is Florian Pfeffer a shameless copy of the hack journalists at Eurogamer?

Copy? Possibly, though arguably meaningless. Shameless? Sounds like sour grapes on the part of a clueless editor. That's a loaded word with a lot of negative power. Shame on the editor for even using it. If he couldn't see the reverence with which the devs approached Dungeon Master, then... ah, fuck it. Incompetents rule the world.

I would have said "homage", but I would certainly agree that there is no shame involved, nor is there anything remotely secret about it.

Here's a thread on dungeon-master.com where the people developing LoG talk about it.

So, I would definitely say "completely free of shame". I also see nothing for them to be ashamed of. I would be genunely shocked if any of the old FTL people saw this and were anything but delighted, and probably also flattered.

I agree with "homage" regarding this matter. Nothing shameless about LoG...err, perhaps shameless fun? How many gamers dream of having the means, talent, funding to construct homage software to honor and relive the PC games they most enjoyed?

its like saying that all MMORPGS are copies of World of Warcraft just cuz they are MMOs in fantasy settings
