Those sound like good ideas.

I think we need to have a categorization of pages.
Asset resources (broken in to sub categories, perhaps? items, mobs, decorations ect.
scripting resources
audio/visual resources
I think we should refrain from advertising custom dungeons there though. (as in no pages dedicated to people's custom dungeons)

I think a lot of what you will be putting on the site at first will be much like what's done in the EDITING SUPER THREAD and the useful scripts repository.

I think grimwiki.net would be a good domain name.

For the accounts I would like to have a thread here in the forums to "sign up" for an account where you or the other wiki admins would provide new people a login. So the sign up would go through that thread and also through an admin so spambots and wiki vandalism would be prevented.

When it comes to wiki I'm a bit afraid of one thing thou: don't you think that when people learn that there's a bunch of stuff that can be found on (and copied from) wiki they'll just limit they time on forums ?
I mean I'm a new member here but I got a few issues with the editor/scripts and when I posted about them discussion was raised. Sometimes people exchange ideas, help each others with code and other stuff.
Don't get me wrong - wiki is a great idea but I'd start it with filling it up with tutorials (models, custom sounds - Audacity, free sound sites, formats that are accepted by LoG and a step by step guides on how to change/implement various things). I'd go with leaving scripting discussions/ideas/repositories on the forums for now.

What do you think ?

Well as I see it I would still post scripts and ideas on the forums or at least links to them in the wiki since most things would benefit from a good discussion and suggestions. I also think that people still would talk about stuff that's in the wiki on the forums.

And since a wiki is way more organized, it would speed up finding stuff way more than trying to search for a weeks old thread that has sunk to page twenty-something. So the forum traffic might be slightly lessened but that would not necessarily be a bad thing.

@Blichew / Montis: I think that's a really good point. While the Wiki would give speedy access to readers to information, I think it is important to use that as a tool to extend the Grimrock Modding Community instead of making it less likely that they communicate. I think the idea fo having Wiki registration through the forums, and guiding all discussion back to the forums.

I actually think, if done right - it would serve only to extend the community by making modding more accessible. If we point discussion of articles back to Forum posts etc, then I think it could be a great tool as well as strengthening the community. You're right though - some care does need to be taken to do that correctly.

Ooh. Komag's video tutorials definitely deserve a spot on a sort of "Getting Started" page.

The difference between the wiki and the forums is the wiki will be full of tried and tested scripts and assets, whereas the forums can be used to post it from the early stages and really have it grow to a nice finished product. (and ready for the wiki)
The problem that putting all resources on the forums as final end is that it'd make it very hard to browse for things that are ready to use.

I think I'm gonna start praying (i might even kill a fly or two as a sacrifice) for Komag to make another one or two on model swapping/creation :P

grimwiki.net or dungeoneditor.net (in the style of Skyrim's creationkit wiki). Both are available!
