Solo Rattling Farmer

Post by Saice »

I'm really thinking about doing this. It will be crazy hard but I think it would be a fun play through. Basically take Rattling Farmer with Mutation (extra stats) and Endurance (less Need for food + carry weight). So far I have not seen anything that a solo character would not be able to do. Has anyone completed the game that can tell me if this would be viable?
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Endurance is the last thing a farmer needs. You're chowing down food the entire time so you need not worry about hunger. You're better off putting that into something more useful that'll help ease the early game burdens you're going to encounter. You need consider that farmer starts 2 levels behind everyone as is but can level faster as you progress. So your first few levels are essentially catch up.

Not sure if it's viable, right now my farmer is ahead of my other guys but I'm only about half way through the game with that team. I'm not sure if he will keep out-leveling them because the amount you need to eat to level gets really high.

I tried exactly that for the last few hours and finally got overwhelmed in the Nest. As long as you got room to move and only need to care about 1 monster or group at once it's doable. Yet when you did not add some good damage buffs to your farmer at game start it will be a painful experience; he'll have a very hard time to dish out the damage needed to kill stuff quick enough.

Let's looks at the minimum needed skills for a successfull solo farmer:
- Alchemy 4+ is a must have for potion supply
- Armor 4 is needed for protection (there is no way to get Evasion anywhere near acceptable values with a farmer)
- Accuracy 2+ is needed to hit things well enough, melee or ranged
- Concentration 2-3 is needed when spells like Light or Dispel need to be performed
- Athletics 3+ will be needed to boost your health and expand your carrying capacity

That's 15+ skill points and no weapon skill yet.

Yeah that is what I'm seeing. It might be doable if you grind farm re-spawnable food early on like the beach turtles. But there re-spawn seems kind of slow and that is where I think endurance might make it viable to power level on the beach for awhile first.

What's the advantage of soloing, the fact that he gets to keep all the food for himself?

Not really needed IMO, starving can't kill you because you can just heal with potions, which are abundant (just take one point in alchemy on somebody).

Starving gives penalties in combat so only use food for combat situations, so you'll still be able to give the ratling like 85% of what you find.

No advantage at all just thought it would be an interesting challenge.

Is it though? The non-improved health potions are still pretty legit and it only takes 2 ranks to brew antidotes and antivenoms. Other potions might be nice but not enough to justify 2 more ranks.
- Armor 4 is needed for protection (there is no way to get Evasion anywhere near acceptable values with a farmer)
Probably a good idea. Again, you might squeak by with 2 ranks; there's some pretty decent light armour available.

- Accuracy 2+ is needed to hit things well enough, melee or ranged
Not sure about that; with +5 dex at creation and every single one of the dex potions going to this guy, I think he might be okay without Accuracy. It'd be nice to have but like you said we're starved for points.
Concentration 2-3 is needed when spells like Light or Dispel need to be performed
Are there moments in the game where these are 100% required? You can use the
SpoilerShow
Etheral Blade to kill elementals right?
. I haven't finished the game yet though so maybe there's something I don't know about.

I doubt you'll really need the carrying capacity. Food will be scarfed down the moment you find it and all but one type of weapon will be useless and not worth carrying, so for what purpose would you use up all your weight? The extra health will certainly be useful though.
That's 15+ skill points and no weapon skill yet.
Right but what level could you expect to get to with this guy? Haven't seen the XP curve for farmer into the late game. Is it conceivable you could get to level 20-ish? It's also probably worth looking into infinite farming in the Herder's Den. You could gain infinite herder caps there couldn't you?

- small health potions won't restore enough health during the later game. Incoming damage of 100+ is not uncommon there.
- best light armor protection is granted by the Mirror set but that's damn heavy without carrying capacity expansion.
- air elementals appear long before the Ethereal Blade can be collected

I don't know yet up to which level a farmer can be feed but i can tell that getting other classes beyond level 15 requires a lot of grinding. Usually the game ends at lvl 13 to 14 and 12 when you skip a lot.

Documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock 2
Open grimrock.cfg in Notepad.
Scroll down to "console=false" and change it to "true".
Change "consoleKey=(number)" to 192.
In game press ` (tilde).
Now you can cheat! lol
spawn("") whatever you need. ("tome_wisdom"), ("tome_health"), ("lurker_boots") hood, pants, vest for evasion, ("arquebus") ("pellet_box") just for fun. Open the editor and check the asset browser for whatever you want.

Hey, it's just a game. Why not have full control? Enjoy!
