How do your characters breathe under water without drowning? Do they have to find water helmets, etc.

Nope. You must get out of water to take air when you are out of energy.

Someone has pointed out that you can drink energy potions to refill your bar some giving at lest one person more underwater time.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
