Old-school dungeons from the DM community

Post by Zyx »

Many of you know about Dungeon Master (1987), the ancestor of LoG and many others: Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, Might and Magic, etc. Several clones allowed to reproduce the experience before Legend of Grimrock came with full 3d and modern graphics: CSBwin, RTC, DSB. There's a whole community of modders around them; many of them came here to pursue the adventure!
My own contribution is this domain is Conflux, free and open-source. It's an expansion of the original gameplay, with old-school graphics, same sensations and a huge lifespan (100 hours or more). It is meant for hardcore players.

There are many other dungeons with excellent puzzles and narrative. If you're in search of inspiration for your dungeon designing efforts, taste some of those, or talk with the designers!

I think this might be more suited for General Discussion, but am not sure.
Either way, looks pretty nifty.

The Conflux map is incredibly hardcore! I'm going to have to try it.

The dungeons use the same mechanisms as Grimrock like pressure pads, levers, counters, etc., so I see it as a free library of knowledge for the modding community.

By the way, Petri is a long-time member of the DM forum and designed some dungeons some ten years ago!

@Batty: let us know how you fare. ^ ^
