Have downloaded 14% so far. Supposedly the demo is very short and spoiler free.

My graphics card died just yesterday. :(

But I'm glad it did it now instead of when the game itself is released.

Oh the remake, I thought you meant the original!

I managed to complete the demo yesterday. It's very short and restricted, but I really liked what I saw, despite it being a demo. I thought it was a shame though that your soldiers speak with American accents even if from other countries. The UI also felt a bit clunky, but that could be a matter of getting used to it. They've managed to convey a great atmosphere that captures a lot of the stuff that was cool in the original, without feeling like a copy with updated graphics. I really like updated and expanded, yet somehow still easy to get into, game mechanics.

Looking forward to playing the real game.

@antti: You guys released the Dungeon Editor while my machine was getting repaired, so I know how much hardware problems suck :(

No choice/option for turn based or real time like in Apocalypse is a step back.
Options satisfy both crowds...

sometimes options are good, but they can compromise the integrity of the game if they force elements of "least common denominator" into the design process

Yeah, it can be tough. One example for Apoc was brainsuckers that were easy in real time and deadly in turn based and that affected early game a lot.
Also I remember I (almost) had to do at least 1 turn based mission to capture some alien live because it was way harder for that particular enemy in real time (can't remember which one).
On the whole though it was worth it and it can be done. But in this case I think the demographic is too small for real time to warrant it.

This game's kept me chained to my computer during my vacation. I've clocked in over 50 hours already, 30 of them in the release weekend. I'm about to do the final mission now.

It's an incredible game with its heart and soul in the right place and worthy of the name XCOM, no doubt about it. They need to fix some of the bugs, but other than that its only real drawback is how hard it is to put down. I haven't gotten any work done on my Grimrock dungeon because of this game.
