Evasion vs. Protection
Evasion vs. Protection
Obviously, having a ton of both would be ideal, given the choice between the two, which do people value most? And a side question as well - Has anyone else noticed that having a ton of hit points is a poor substitute for both?
Me, I prefer Evasion. If I don't get hit, I don't take damage. Lizardmen are my front line. One fighter, one rogue.

Well I prefer protection for the simple fact that you rarely stand still in front of an enemy and trade blows which would be the only time evasion would come into play.

I don't understand your reasoning. Whether you are standing still or not doesn't effect the equation. Evasion effects the chances of a blow landing. Protection reduces the damage of a landed blow. Both are affected by the number of blows you are subjected to (i.e., whether you stand still or not).MASKOAA wrote:Well I prefer protection for the simple fact that you rarely stand still in front of an enemy and trade blows which would be the only time evasion would come into play.
As to which is better, I don't think we don't know enough of the game mechanics to figure it out. The devil is in the details between these two. frequent, big blows.

Get both.
Evasion is nice.. and Protection is nice.
But having enough Armor skill to take advantage of things is better.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

How is my reasoning hard to understand? Evasion like you said effects the chances of a blow landing....well most battles I'm moving out of the enemies range after attacking so evasion isn't so useful when you consider that your mostly not even giving the enemy a chance to hit you...ya they'll get a few odd blows in when you miss time things but thats its.stepsongrapes wrote:I don't understand your reasoning. The same goes for protection: if you're not going to get hit, you don't need it.MASKOAA wrote:How is my reasoning hard to understand? That's why I plan my next playthrough to be on the offensive to the max. No defensively placed skillpoints, those heavy armors are too heavy anyway, you could carry a ton of bombs more if you don't pick them up.

Evasion doesn't block projectiles.Montis wrote:The same goes for protection: if you're not going to get hit, you don't need it.MASKOAA wrote:How is my reasoning hard to understand? Re: Evasion vs. Protection
It's kind of a general consensus (although you wouldn't know it from just looking at the answers so far, which is confusing me) that evasion is better.
I'd certainly vouch for it. From my experience, melee attacks have kind of a wide spread and protection doesn't help as much as you'd expect it to.

Re: Evasion vs. Protection
From experience it seems like Evasion is by far more effective.
I wonder if enemies have these stats. I haven't noticed enemies that are especially easy or hard to hit, or ones that shrug off hits from lighter weapons because of high armor.

Re: Evasion vs. Protection
Only thing that uses physical projectiles I can think of are skeleton archers. They hardly are a big issue either way. Maybe protection can help against fall damage from pits but I'm not sure about that.MASKOAA wrote:Evasion doesn't block projectiles.
