But it was worth it.
Here's what happened.
I had just installed and started the game on launch day. I was having a great time killing snails and getting used to the combat system and enjoying the ambience when I noticed the gpu fan on my geforce 460gtx getting louder and louder like it hadn't done since I tried running The Witcher 2 without enough exhaust fans.
Suddenly there was a loud BANG from the tower beside me and I leaped out of my chair as the whole system went dead.
Diagnosis (and one new power supply later) showed the card was fried (not to mention the power supply).
I'm not upset. The power supply needed to be replaced and the 460gtx should be covered by warranty. But given how many people have reported GPU issues and overheating I thought I would share this.
For now I have replaced the card with my old geforce 9600gt which has been running the game with no problems or overheating whatsoever. Maybe it's only newer cards that are having problems?
