Question with "spoilers" about final boss!
Re: Question with "spoilers" about final boss!
shame there was such a misunderstanding. the goromorgs could have just let us out instead of attacking on the spot. then their little prison never would have been broken into.
Re: Question with "spoilers" about final boss!
I assume the dungeon is supposed to be some kind of test to find someone who can defeat the cube. Why they can't kill it themselves, I don't know, but Toorum wonders in one of his notes that why it seems like he's the first to activate all these mechanisms, and concludes that somebody must be maintaining them. The cube itself wonders in one of the dreams why the keepers of the dungeon don't stop you when they easily could. Which leads me to another question: when you find Toorum's remains, he says that he thought that he knew the rules of the dungeon, and still somehow got sealed in. Then he says he can hear "them" whispering on the other side, and that they know that he's not on their side. I wonder what the could mean, since we were trying to free The Eternal One, and he didn't know he was there.osashta wrote:shame there was such a misunderstanding. the goromorgs could have just let us out instead of attacking on the spot. then their little prison never would have been broken into.
Re: Question with "spoilers" about final boss!
I have considered this angle as well. I was very sad to learn that Toorum got sealed in with no apparent error on his part. if this is the case however...why didn't Toorum succeed? why would they have locked him in? he must have been incredibly powerful to have managed to survive all the way to...floor 10 was it? it seems very likely to me that he could have taken on the cube. I suppose it's likely that the Goromorgs wanted to put their faith in more than one man if that's the case, but still...that's one man that's passed all your tests. no sense in cheating him out of a chance at victory

Yeah, that's what confuses me. He says that they think he wasn't on their side, but he was just trying to escape, while we were trying to free the prisoner. We might have let him out if he hadn't tried to kill us.osashta wrote:I have considered this angle as well. Re: Question with "spoilers" about final boss!
Yeah I don't get it either. I can only assume Toorum might have had some other motive we don't know about.
Also the whole not wanting the place blown up is a bit rubbish of an idea. They could have killed the cube and moved else where like any sane person would have done.
I also feel they are more the capable of killing the cube. They had the weapon and they are all mages (cube is weak versus air spells) and of course their golem things. There was some text earlier on about how they are its keepers.
So let me get out my tin foil hat here can give you the best theory I can come up with.
Goromorgs I believe at one point were the Cubes servants or at lest allies. At some point in the past the Cube might have been helpful to them. I will reach here an suggest the Cube is other worldly and has some sort of power to summon monsters (as suggested by the boss fight). I think at first the Goromorgs built a kingdom around the Cube and its powers. Either as I suggested as servants or allies. But a schism of sorts happened either they rouse up or the Cube betrayed them. Not wanting to lose access to the Cubes power they imprisoned it away. Since we know Grimrock has been a mystery for as long as people have been around the place we can assume this happened ages ago. So I would suggest the possibility of a sort of Stockholm syndrome. The Goromorgs kingdom dies off at some point but the keepers in Grimrock just don't know anything else but a life of servicing the dungeon to keep Cube Face locked up the original needs having long be lost they just keep doing what they have done for ages. Keeping Cube imprisoned with no kingdom outside to use his power anymore. The designers put the weapon there as a fall safe should Cube face break free but ideally they needed him locked up so they could use his powers.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
