If you have Steam version installed you pretty much need to do nothing. Steam will automatically patch the game for you unless you specifically set Steam not to do that.

And yes, 13 levels is about average length or maybe even slightly above that for games like this.

Each stone seems to only work once, though. Had to use one on the second floor and it turned dark after it resurrected my 3 dead (don't ask...) party members. So you can't just run back to a crystal and constantly cure/revive your party. Crystals reload, but you need to wait for several minutes bet...

Small chance to logic with dead party members: I find it slightly amusing that you can put items to hands of dead persons. Somehow I do not think that rigor mortis is strong enough to keep anything in your hands after death.
